A CMS Physics mini-Masterclass with the participation of ten secondary school students from the Varvakio Pilot High School in Athens, Greece, took place on 8 May in CERN. This was the first time that Greek students visiting CERN had the opportunity to learn under the guidance of CMS researchers, Michail Bachtis, Nikolaos Chrysogelos and Konstantinos Theofilatos, to visualize and analyze real LHC data which the CMS Collaboration has recently made available to the public for use in education and outreach.

This CMS mini-Masterclass was part of an integrated two-day educational trip to CERN, initiated by Dr. Andreas Valadakis, Varvakio's physics teacher and participant in last year's Greek Teachers Programme at CERN, and organized in the framework of Discover the COSMOS. The students, all members of the physics student group at Varvakio led by Dr. Valadakis, had worked over the last semester to learn about the world of particle physics, CERN, its experiments and contribution to mankind's quest to understand the universe.
